What are my WEB.DE IMAP settings?

IMAP is imap.web.de on port 993 (SSL); SMTP is smtp.web.de on port 587 with STARTTLS. We detect these automatically from your address.

Why can I not log in from an email program?

WEB.DE blocks POP3 and IMAP until you switch on "POP3/IMAP Abruf" in the webmail settings. Do that first. With two-factor authentication you additionally need an application-specific password instead of your normal one.

Is WEB.DE the same as GMX?

They are sister brands of 1&1 Mail & Media and behave identically: same IMAP toggle, same app password rules, same CalDAV calendar. Only the hostnames differ, web.de instead of gmx.net.

Your web.de address

All WEB.DE mailboxes live on the web.de domain and share the same servers, imap.web.de and smtp.web.de.

IMAP enabled in webmail

Log in at web.de, click the icon with your initials, open "E-Mail-Einstellungen", then "POP3/IMAP Abruf", allow POP3 and IMAP access and save.

Your password, or an app password with 2FA

Your normal WEB.DE password works over IMAP. With two-factor authentication enabled, create an "anwendungsspezifisches Passwort" under "Login & Sicherheit" and use that here instead.

WEB.DE works best with a revocable app password.
