What you need
Your Posteo address
posteo.de, posteo.net and Posteo's other country domains all sign in with the full address on the same server, posteo.de, for IMAP and SMTP alike.
An app password (recommended)
Posteo's own client guide points external programs at an app password: create one under Settings, "My account", "Password and security", "App passwords". Your account password also works over IMAP unless you enable Posteo's additional email account protection, which blocks it.
Posteo works best with a revocable app password.
