What are my freenet IMAP settings?

IMAP is mx.freenet.de on port 993 (SSL); SMTP is the same host, mx.freenet.de, on port 587 with STARTTLS. Encryption is mandatory on both. We detect these automatically from your address.

Why does my freenet password not work in email apps?

Almost always because the client access toggle is still off. freenet blocks POP3, IMAP and SMTP until you tick "POP3, IMAP und SMTP aktivieren" in the webmail settings, and its help pages even recommend leaving it off when unused.

Does a freenet calendar work?

No. freenet documents no CalDAV interface for outside apps, so this connection covers mail only.

Your freenet.de address

freenet mailboxes live on the freenet.de domain, and one host does everything: mx.freenet.de answers for both IMAP and SMTP.

Client access enabled in webmail

Log in at mail.freenet.de, open the gear icon, choose "Einrichtung POP3/IMAP" under "POP3/IMAP/SMTP", tick "POP3, IMAP und SMTP aktivieren" and save. Until then, freenet rejects every email program.

Your freenet password

No app passwords here: once client access is enabled, IMAP takes your normal freenet Mail password with your full address as the username.
