IMAP is imap.yandex.com on port 993 (SSL); SMTP is smtp.yandex.com on port 465. Auto-detected from your address.

Do I really need an app password?

Yes. Yandex only lets mail clients in with app passwords or OAuth tokens. Generate one at id.yandex.com/security/app-passwords (type Mail) and keep your main password for the browser.

Does calendar sync work with Yandex?

Not over this connection. Yandex CalDAV demands a separate Calendar-type app password, distinct from the Mail-type password IMAP accepts, and one connection can only carry one credential. Email works fully.

Enable IMAP in Yandex Mail settings

In Yandex Mail open Settings, then "Email clients", and enable both "From the imap.yandex.com server via IMAP" and "App passwords and OAuth tokens".

Create an app password

At id.yandex.com/security/app-passwords create a password of type Mail. Yandex shows it once; paste it here instead of your account password, which mail clients cannot use.

Yandex Mail works best with a revocable app password.
